writer, scholar, editor

I’m a Career Development Fellow at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford, where I teach English literature. My research focuses on literature, culture, and liturgy in late medieval England. I regularly speak about medieval liturgy for wider audiences, including in public talks and on podcasts.

My recent book, Light on Darkness: The Untold Story of the Liturgy, is an accessible introduction to medieval rites of worship and their place in medieval culture. It explores how the liturgy shaped art, literature, and music from the Middle Ages up to the present day.
